One of several historically significant aircraft at China Lake, XF4D-l Skyray BuNo 124587 was the second of two such aircraft that were made. A specially constructed fifty-foot tower, especially designed to withstand helicopter operation, was built by Code 30 for low altitude test firing. In this test, the target was demolished and the tower was hardly damaged. For this test, a surplus UH-19G helicopter (BuNo 138588) was provided by NAF, 12 September 1969. Rocketeer photo.
