• Jan 1 -- NAF has 27 aviation officers, 5 other officers, 480 enlisted and 57 aircraft consisting of 2 A-4C, 2 A-4E, 1 NA-4E, 3 TA-4F, 1 A-4F, 1 NA-6A, 1 NEA-6A, 1 A-7A, 2 F-4B, 1 OV-10A, 2 DF-8A, 2 F-8H, 2 DT-28B, 1 UH-1E, 1 UH-34J, 1 C-131F, 1 C-117D, 1 U-3A, 1 NTF-9J, 1 QF-9G, 13 QF-9J, 1 T-33B, 14 QT-33A & 1 leased C-210. VX-5 has 27 aviation officers, 8 other officers, 278 enlisted and 15 aircraft consisting of 1 US-2A, 2 A-4E, 2 A-4F, 2 TA-4F, 1 F-4B, 1 F-4J, 2 A-7B & 4 A-7E. The Aero Club has 1 T-34B.
• April 02 -- U.S. Navy Lt. Gerald Hall lost his life when his TA-4F Skyhawk (153503) crashed on landing at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base in Belton, MO. ADJ-2 Leroy Neville survived the accident.
• April 03 -- TA-4F Skyhawk (153494) was doing touch and go's and had a very hard landing and the gear collapsed and the plane stared sliding down the runway and the pilot, Lt Wayne T. Oxford, punched them out. Front seat was flawless, however, there was a failure in the DART system on the rear seat as only one side of the DART was hooked up and seat came out and then tumbled sideways. The chute was either tangled badly or burned and only partially inflated. Lt. Bill Weiler landed in the middle of the runway, badly injured but conscious. He directed his own pickup and was medevac'ed to Balboa. The TA-4 was SOC.
• July 1 -- NAF has 23 aviation officers, 5 other officers, 463 enlisted and 53 aircraft consisting of 2 A-4C, 1 NA-4E, 3 A-4E, 1 A-4F, 2 TA-4F, 1 NEA-6A, 1 A-6A, 1 A-7A, 1 A-7E, 2 DF-8F, 1 F-8H, 2 F-4B, 1 F-4J, 1 OV-10A, 1 NA-1G, 1 HH-1K, 1 UH-1E, 2 DT-28B, 1 C-117D, 1 C-131F, 7 QF-9J, 15 QT-33A, 1 T-33B, 1 U-3A, 1 T-39D & 1 NTF-9J. VX-5 has 18 aviation officers, 8 other officers, 269 enlisted and 14 aircraft consisting of 1 TA-4F, 1 A-4E, 2 A-4F, 1 F-4B, 1 A-7B, 4 A-7E & 1 US-2A. The Aero Club has 1 T-34B.
• Sep 25 -- A Condor, television-guided air-to-surface missile, was launched by an A-6A at a standoff distance from its target. The aircraft was 56 miles from the target when the missile made a direct impact.
