• April 02 -- U.S. Navy Lt. Gerald Hall lost his life when his TA-4F Skyhawk (153494) crashed on landing at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base in Belton, MO. ADJ-2 Leroy Neville survived the accident.
• July 09 -- TA-4F Skyhawk (153503) was doing touch and go's and was SOC after a very hard landing.

• Sep 25 -- A Condor, television-guided air-to-surface missile, was launched by an A-6A at a standoff distance from its target. The aircraft was 56 miles from the target when the missile made a direct impact.

China Lake FAE introduction team, South Vietnam, 1970; under VLAP and other programs, China Lake provided direct support to the operating forces, sending civilian engineers, analysts, and technicians to the ships on Yankee Station and to the operators in the field to introduce new weapons and to bring the operators' needs back to the lab.
